The opening day of the first center
for AIDS sufferers in HCM City.




    (SGGP) On the early morning of third July, Mai Hoa center established. This center is situated on Do Dang Tuyen Street, An Nhon Tay Village, Cu Chi District.Guests included in the ceremony of the opening: Vice President of the People Committee of HCM City Nguyen Thanh Tai and society and international representatives.
Compassionate Vincent convent established the center. The area of the center is 10.000m², The expense to run the center is over 1 billion Vietnam dong. The center has two barracks, including 12 beds and is building extra barracks.
During the opening day, Sr. Tue Linh, the head director of the center hopes, This center is not only a place to care for sufferers, In May 2001, we discovered 1 022 extra cases for those infected with HIV/AIDS. The increase in five months ago, went up to a total of 2 357. In these cases, 295 have altered from HIV to AIDS. In HCM City, there are 7 700 people who have suffered HIV/AIDS. Out of the 7 700 cases there are 2 800 who have altered from HIV to AIDS. There are 1 072 who have died. There have been 3 000 cases reported of children being affected of this deadly disease. Out of this, 14% have deceased. Overall, out of these figures, people addicted towards drugs have been most affected.
